The following was written about the event by the Linlithgow Gazette:

A passion for singing and rugby was shared last week when Linlithgow Rugby Club’s male voice choir visited Langon, 30 miles south east of Bordeaux and home of Stade Langonnais Rugby club.

The French club’s male voice choir – Les Choeur Des Rugueux – had organised a fantastic programme for the visitors, including visits to the vineyards of Sauternes and dinners in the evenings that featured a wonderful variety of  local food and wines. However, the highlight  was  undoubtedly the sell-out concert for an audience of 500 in the beautiful local church of Saint-Gervais, at the end of which both choirs received a standing ovation.

During the visit the choir was also honoured by a formal reception and presentation of the “Town Medal” by Mayor Philippe Plagnol. In return the Mayor was presented with a framed photograph of Linlithgow Palace, which will be hung in the town’s Council Chambers.

Chris Thomas, the president of Linlithgow RFC Male Voice said: “We have had several very enjoyable  overseas tours in the past, but this is the first time that we have effectively “twinned” with another  choir and I have to say that the whole experience was hugely successful  The welcome could not have been warmer, the hospitality was truly outstanding and it was a real thrill to take part in the joint concert.  We are hoping that there will be a return visit in 2015 when we will take great pleasure in welcoming  Les Choeur Des Rugueux  and their supporters to Linlithgow”.

The Choir is also planning to repeat the twinning experience in September next year, with a visit to Dordrecht in Holland. If you enjoy singing and would like to hear more about Linlithgow RFC Male Voice choir, please call Chris Thomas on 07823 884802.

The Choir’s next performance in Linlithgow will be on Friday 12th December at St. Ninian’s Craigmailen Church, when they will take part in a Carol Service to raise funds for the St. Michael’s Day Care Centre.  For tickets  please telephone 01506 843524.
