Tough Fixture For Rugby Club Choir

Linlithgow Rugby Club have quite a challenge in store next month. To be more specific, the Club's internationally travelled male voice choir is taking on Les Miserables in a series of three Edinburgh Concerts.

Instead of getting down and dirty in the mud and the rain at Mains Park the choir will be on stage at Bruntsfield Evangelical Church performing some of the most memorable and best known songs from the musical which celebrated its 25th anniversary last year as well as a selection of classical arias and songs from the shows. They will be singing alongside the Club's Ladies Choir and be complemented by a number of soloists from Aria Alba-Opera for All.

All of the profit raised by the concerts will be divided equally and donated to the NSPCC and CHAS. None of the participants or organisers are receiving a fee for their services.

Under the direction of musical director Joe Lavery, the 22 strong choir has been rehearsing for the best part of a year and the quality of their singing has been immensely enhanced by international singing coach Dr Nell Drew; so the Choir which has already visited Canada and China offers a not-to-be-missed experience.

The concerts are at 7.30pm on August 25, 26 and 27 in Bruntsfield Evangelical Church. Full price tickets are £10 and concessions £8.00. Tickets are available from: e-mail: lesmis@lochan.org or phone: 01506 844383.

Aria Alba Opera for All is a new opera company dedicated to providing a platform for emerging singers. Aria Alba is the brainchild of Nell Drew, international opera singer and voice coach, who returned to Scotland a few years ago and works out of Edinburgh. The company's mission is to bring quality opera to new audiences by recruiting new members from the community.

The company is a charitable body and performs its Edinburgh Festival Fringe show, Aria In an Italian Garden, on August 6,13 and 20 in Bruntsfield Church. Contact Aria Alba on enquiries@ariaalba.org.uk or visit their website on www.ariaalba.org.uk.
